Detroit, MI, April 23, 2013 –The Detroit Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Detroit River Regatta Association (DRRA), will host a fundraising dinner party and auction on April 27 beginning at 6:00 p.m. to benefit the 2013 APBA Detroit Gold Cup Races, scheduled for July 13 – 14 on the Detroit River. Last year’s event raised more than $80,000 from ticket sales and live and silent auctions. Approximately 500 people were in attendance, including local  dignitaries and guests from both the U.S. and Canada.

Money raised from the fundraiser will go toward operating expenses for this year’s Gold Cup Races.

This year’s fundraiser will feature WJR Radio’s Frank Beckmann as Master of Ceremonies and include appearances by several Detroit Tiger players including Ramon Santiago, Al Albuquerque and Octavio Dotel, Brayan Pena and Brayan Villerael. Musical entertainment will be provided by the “Back In The Day Band” headed by Larry Lee, former Detroit Lions center and Vice President.

The Detroit Yacht Club will announce a major concert to be staged on the Club’s grounds on Thursday July 11 to kick off Gold Cup weekend. It will feature Grammy Award winning singer Rick Springfield along with a special guest co-headliner to be named at the Saturday evening event. The Detroit Yacht Club is a vital and growing part of the renewed spirit of Detroit and we are proud to be partnered with the Detroit River Regatta Association and the American Power Boat Association to keep this tradition alive.”

The Detroit Yacht Club is the Presenting Sponsor for this year’s Gold Cup Races again in 2013, leading the fundraising efforts for the event, including seeking businesses, individuals and clubs to help by donating auction items and by attending the event on April 27.
