The DRRA Signs 10-year Agreement with the APBA

The DYC Detroit APBA Gold Cup proudly announces the inking of a ten-year deal to keep the prestigious Gold Cup races in Detroit; the annual event, which has been hosted on the Detroit River for the past 98 years, will be held July 11-13, 2014.

"The rich history and tradition Detroit brings to hydroplane racing make it an ideal home for the Gold Cup for many years to come," said Mark Wheeler, President of the American Power Boat Association.

The decade-long agreement was signed this week between the Detroit River Regatta Association, which organizes the event, and the American Power Boat Association, the sanctioning body for the races.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to know that the Gold Cup will be staying in Detroit, where it belongs, hopefully for another hundred years," said Tom Bertolini, President of the Detroit River Regatta Association.

In addition to the unlimited hydroplanes, the weekend will feature live music from local bands Mondays Lie, Bedrock and Matt Austin Band.  Attendees also can enjoy vintage race boats, a car show, along with automotive hydroplanes capable of reaching speeds of 150 mph.

The cold pits open at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 11, while time trials, testing and qualifying begin at noon.  Friday is free to attend; general admission for Saturday and Sunday ranges from $15 to $45; reserved seating starts at $60. Parking is an additional fee.

A press conference, which is open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, July 9 at 11 a.m. in Campus Martius in Detroit.

At The Shop - U22 Webster Racing

Who's ready for race season?!?! WE ARE!!!!!!! Despite the crazy winter lots of great things happened in the shop to prepare for this coming year. After rebuilding the boat last year, we were able to take the time to fine tune and tweak the things we ran out of time to do before last season started.
